Angie and Daniel Kim’s Santa Monica restaurant is about the beauty of blending cultures, about the space you create when you are proudly Korean and proudly American at the same time. Interstellar serves a bulgogi burger and garlic-butter shrimp with delightful spicy Cajun red sauce. Chef Angie also showcases Japanese and Italian influences as she makes uni bottarga pasta and spicy edamame with white truffle ponzu and sambal. At lunch, there are katsu sandos on the much-buzzed-about and difficult-to-procure shokupan from Ginza Nishikawa. Or get the shokupan as dessert, in the form of honey butter toast with berries and gelato. The pillowy milk bread is terrific with both savory and sweet flavors.
